January 31st, 2018 - Sorry for the lack of updates, I've been mostly getting used to everything again. Since the flight back, I was able to look into the automatic updates but haven't had a chance to begin implementing to test.
I've ordered the list of pending items in terms of priority:
Again, I'm sorry for the lack of updates, the work trip caused a bit of a delay. I'll post another update when I make progress on the automatic updates!
It's been a few days (almost a week). I was able to get the basics on the form items to load in back on the 15th, however didn't make much progress since then. I was able to get back to development today and was able to properly implement a products ability to select the Currency Locale (and retain it between runs) as well as vendor selection. If a product doesn't have a vendor assigned, it will use the "[No Vendor]" item - which greys out all vendor specific information. The dropdown allows for users to easily switch the vendor to whatever ones are defined. I've placed a screenshot below showing the currency properly loading and the Purchase Price field using the associated currency format, as well as how the Vendor Information section behaves when the [No Vendor] item is selected.
I'm likely not going to get much development in for the rest of the week as I'll be packing tomorrow night for my work trip, and spending Tuesday through Thursday on said work trip.
There's obviously a lot more work to do, but I want to focus on implementing the following so we can work towards an Alpha status, allowing feedback on the current changes while allowing us to work on the features that are missing.
Guess that's all for now - please let me know your thoughts and if you'd like to participate in the Alpha!
January 15th, 2018 - A bit more time has passed than I would have liked between this update and the previous, but after a dozen or so hours, I was able to get the backend structure of Products/Versions, Vendors, and Assets created, along with the functionality behind their interfaces with the database. I'm still working on the form portion of the controls, however, meaning the load/save is still in development. I underestimated the amount of time it would take to implement the new structure on everything but am at least onto the core features at the moment.
I wanted to give a heads up that I will be on a work trip next week, so there won't be any progress from the 23rd through the 25th, which is why I had hoped to be at a full validation phase for then. I'm not confident that we'll hit that target, but it is still the goal. If the core functionality is there and still pending some bells and whistles, we may do a beta release with updates as features get implemented for a proper release when everyone is comfortable and confident with what has been implemented.
January 8th, 2018 - I've finalized the settings to cover the new options and utilize the updated database structure, which will allow for additional customization and improved performance when interacting with the database. This weeks plan is to configure Product/Version, Vendor, and Assets to properly load and save, however we're still thinking of the best approach from the UI on addressing versions in a product. At the moment, products are accessible through a button on the form, which displays a list of all versions of the current product for the user to select from. We were thinking of modifying some controls on the main form, but believe it's best to leave it as-is for now and allow for feedback to drive that features growth.
I'll post another update as soon as I make additional progress on the load/save of the core features.
January 4th, 2018 - Larry here! I'm currently finalizing the Settings and Options, adding a few to allow additional customization and improved performance (will remain in beta for some time). I've implemented a foundation for Product/Version, Vendor, and Asset management but will be re-writing it due to a second pass-through of the database structure (Nth-Form + better flow). I'm aiming to finalize the Settings and Database structures within the week to encompass everything. My goal for next week (1/7-13) is to adjust Product/Version, Vendor, and Asset management to use the new structure and ensure they function as expected. The week thereafter (14-20), implement all other features, such as Print, Export, Import, Find, etc. This structure should allow me half a week (21-24) to do another round of validations on my own with beta tests starting for the weekend (25-27). Please note that these dates are target and are tentative, but I'm planning on being a lot more active on here with constant updates on Twitter for our status and when things are implemented.
With that all stated, I'm sorry for the increased delay on our end; there's no excuse for the lack of updates, you deserve to know if we're being active or stalled. There was some minor personal stuff going on for me, moved in August/September with your standard holiday stuff from November through the New Year. It's not so much a resolution, but I'll do everything I can to keep this up to date with a worst-case of a post a week. Thank you for bearing with us, it's greatly appreciated!
